5. Ash: a reminder to repent
this reminds us to reflect on our shortcomings; that we need God’s forgiveness for the wrong things we have done and that we need to try to be better disciples of Jesus.
Ash: a reminder that life on earth is temporary
this reminds us of our humble status before God; it puts us in our place; it reminds us to be aware of our limitations.
Ash: a sign of our need for Easter
the most important reason for using Ash on Ash Wednesday is to realise the need for Easter and the hope that Easter brings. The Risen Lord brings us with him to eternal life.

6. What steps can I take this Lent so that I may deepen my relationships with God and those around me?

7. Our awareness of each other’s faith and traditions will engender a deeper appreciation and love of one another that goes beyond tolerance.
