2 Introduction A number is called a perfect cube if it is expressed as the cube of a number. The numbers 1, 8, 27, 64, etc are called perfect cubes 1 = 13, 8 = 23, 27 = 33, 64 = 43 and so on.

3 Example 1: Is 64 a perfect cube?
Solution 64 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 23 x 23 = (2 x 2) 3 = 4 3 Therefore 64 is a perfect cube

4 Example 2: Is 500 a perfect cube
Example 2: Is 500 a perfect cube? Solution 500 = 2 x 2 x 5 x 5 x 5 Here 2 x 2 remains after grouping the 5’s in triplets So, 500 is not a perfect cube.
