Love our own soul Note: Prov. 19:8 If we diligently love our own soul, we will: Protect it: Prov. 19:16 Preserve it: Prov. 16:17 Guard it: Prov. 22:5 Not destroy it: Prov. 6:32; 21:23 Most often men ignore the wiseman’s advice: Non-Christians: 1 Cor. 1:18, 26-28; 2 Cor. 4:3-4; Matt. 7:13-14; 2 Thess. 1:7-9; Phil. 2:9-11 Christians: Jas. 4:4; Lk. 19:14; 2 Tim. 3:1-5 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman

5 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman
Nourish our own soul No living thing, plant or animal, can survive without nourishment. We must constantly nourish our soul: God’s wisdom: Prov. 19:8 Fools despise own soul: Prov. 1:7 God’s understanding: Prov. 4:5-9; 2:6-7 Fools wrong own soul: Prov. 8:36 Most often men ignore the wiseman’s advice: Non-Christians: 1 Cor. 1:18, 26-28; 2 Cor. 4:3-4; 1 Cor. 4:8, 10; Heb. 9:27; Eccl. 12:13-14; 2 Cor. 5:10; Phil. 2:9-11 Christians: 2 Pet. 1:5-11; Phil. 4:8-9; 1 Pet. 4:17-18 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman

6 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman
Love rebuke One who truly loves his own soul loves one who rebukes him: Prov. 3:12; 9:8-9; 27:5 “You can’t handle the truth!” Prov. 15:32 There is a right way, and wrong way, to rebuke: Matt. 7:2-5; Eph. 4:15; Gal. 6:1-2 Those unwilling to rebuke neither love the souls of others or their own souls: Ezek. 33:7-9 If we love our own soul, how can we be angry with one who loves us enough to rebuke us? Gal. 4:16; Psa. 141:5 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman

7 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman
Forgives and forgets Note the wiseman: Prov. 28:13 A clear conscience is worth more than gold: 1 Tim. 1:5; Acts 23:1 The only way to a clear conscience is to confess our sins: Private sin: 1 Jn. 1:9 Public sin: Jas. 5:16 When God forgives, He forgets: Heb. 8:12; 10:16-17 Can we count on one another to do the same? Prov. 10:12; Jas. 5:19-20; Eph. 5:11; 2 Jn. 9-11; Heb. 4:16; Eph. 4:32; 2 Cor. 2:6-8 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman

8 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman
Useless All we gain in this world is a a total waste if we have not love. “Money can’t buy you love.” Prov. 15:1; 22:1 This concept is one of Paul’s main points in 1 Corinthians 13:1-8a. Toleration of anything and everything is NOT love! Ezek. 33:7-9; 1 Jn. 5:16-17 Do we “give him life” when we ignore sin or properly rebuke and encourage?! Lessons on Love from a Wiseman

9 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman
When is love, love? Not everything that is called love is really love, at least as God defines it. Listen to the adulteress in Proverbs 7:18. Any “love” that acts in conflict with the truth is not really “love.” Ezek. 33:7-9; 1 Jn. 5:16-17 It is not “love” to allow sin to go unchallenged or unrebuked; to say nothing or do nothing. God holds us accountable! Ezek. 33:7-9 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman

10 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman
Conclusion Have you learned Solomon’s lessons on love and are you willing to apply them to your life? Do you: Love your own soul? Love to forgive and forget? Nourish your own soul? Useless without love? Love those who rebuke you? Know when love is love? Remember: 1 Cor. 13:1-3 Lessons on Love from a Wiseman
