Firstly, it is important to remember that a sentence begins with a capital letter… Punctuation ending the quote must go inside the quotation marks. Oliver said, “I want some more.” Because the quotation is a sentence in its own right, it must also begin with a capital letter. The quotation exists within the broader sentence, so only a comma is required here. and ends with a full stop.

9 When characters in a text (film or book) speak, it’s called dialogue.

10 When characters speak, they take turns.

11 So, the rule is: Change speaker = change line.

“Want something from the shop?” asked Tom. “No thanks,” replied Jess. “Are you sure?” “Actually, I do need some milk please.”
