Antoni Gaudi 25th June June 1926

Where did he live And other interesting facts
Gaudi was born in Reus, Catalonia, Spain, which makes him Spanish. Most of his work was constructed in Barcelona and he actually spent most of his life in that city. Lots of famous people admired Gaudi apart from one man called Picasso. So unenthused of Antoni’s work he was, he bid both the Sagrada Familia and Gaudi to hell. He was a pretty strict vegetarian. He liked nature so that’s why lots of his work is based around that. He didn’t like straight lines (which is obvious if you look at his work) because they were hardly ever created naturally. Gaudi started his career designing none other than… lampposts.

The Sagrada Familia The Sagrada Familia: probably the greatest project Gaudi had ever started. After 137 years it still remains unfinished. It is estimated to be finished in around 2027 so that’s not long if it began in 1882.

Park guell Park Guell was named after Eusebi Guell who wanted to create a stylish park for Barcelona nobility. There are a lot of bright-coloured tiles and natural-looking statues like this dragon for instance.

Caso Batllo The Caso Batllo was one of the greatest works of Gaudi. The colours and shapes were all inspired by marine life and as you can see, the balconies are all based on sculls and bones.

Death In 1926, Antoni Gaudi died after a serious traffic accident. He may have survived but of course the senseless humans had mistaken him for a beggar, due to his shabby appearance, so he did not receive any immediate medical attention. After his death, no one really accepted the amazing work of Gaudi until Salvador Dali took an interest in him.
