1 The Victory Over Satan 1Peter 5:1-14

2 The Victory Over Satan In this final section of the epistle Peter tells of the need for faithfulness in leadership and how suffering can be productive in our overcoming of the devil. This lesson brings my series over 1Peter to a close. Unfortunately I will not be able to continue into the book of 2Peter as I had hoped.

3 A CALL TO FAITHFULNESS (1Pet. 5:1-4)
The Victory Over Satan A CALL TO FAITHFULNESS (1Pet. 5:1-4) One very important thing that will help the brethren be faithful in the midst of suffering is a committed and active eldership. Peter encourages his fellow elders to do their ministry. The example for all elders (shepherds) is the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ.

4 VICTORY THROUGH HUMILITY (1Pet. 5:5-7)
The Victory Over Satan VICTORY THROUGH HUMILITY (1Pet. 5:5-7) Younger men (and women) are to be subject to the older men. The wisdom of the aged is invaluable in handling the problems of life. The word ‘casting’ in 5:7 means a once, and for all action. Christians are to cast all their cares on the Lord and then walk away from them.

5 THE VICTORY OVER SATAN (1Pet. 5:8-11)
Christians are to be sober and on the alert. The command of 5:9 is to resist the devil. The promise is that God will bless (5:10): 1. Perfect (mature or complete). 2. Confirmed (deep-rooted). 3. Strengthened (powerful). 4. Established (reputable, time-honored).

6 The Victory Over Satan FINAL REMARKS (1Pet. 5:12-14)
Silvanus is Peter’s scribe. Peter’s reference to Babylon is a figurative way to speak of Rome. The ‘she’ is the church that meets there. Peter’s final words of encouragement: 1. Stand firm in the grace of God (5:12). 2. Greet one another with love (5:14). 3. May the peace of Christ be theirs (5:14).

7 The Victory Over Satan A brief recap of 1Peter:
Chapter 1: Christians have a great salvation, inheritance, and hope. Chapter 2: Christians have a great spiritual standing with God. Chapter 3: Christians are to show submission to the government, in the home, and in the church.

8 The Victory Over Satan A brief recap of 1Peter:
Chapter 4: Christ’s victory over suffering is our victory over suffering. Chapter 5: Christians can overcome Satan by enduring through their suffering--God will bless.

9 The Victory Over Satan Revelation 1:9 is applicable.
What is in Christ?: 1. Tribulation. 2. The kingdom. 3. The perseverance. Get out of Jesus and you lose your salvation. Stay in Jesus, even with tribulation, and you will also find perseverance (1Pet. 4:19).
