To make clear to parents the progression in skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
For the children to demonstrate some of these skills.
To enable parents to support their children at home with maths work.
To answer any questions about supporting children at home with maths.

PICTORAL – draw diagrams to aid calculation
ABSTRACT – written calculation.
MUST NOT JUMP STRAIGHT TO ABSTRACT – children will not master the concept in order to be able to apply it to solve problems.

Place the larger number in your head and count on the smaller number to find your answer.

7. SEE CALCULATION IN ACTION!
Children from each year group will use their reasoning skills to explain to you how to solve the activity they have.
Feel free to develop their reasoning skills by asking them “Why did you do that?” or “How did you know?”
