A Big Thank-You From Troop Athena

Last time we spoke we were pitching for sponsorship and only at the beginning of the big journey ahead. introduce us briefly First major sponsor which went a long way To day we want to talk to you about how the competition went, our take always but mainly say thank you

results! Very harshly scored competition Highs Awards

F1 in Schools has given me so much experience in the field of engineering. i learned so much about aerodynamics, physics and even things like business management. it also taught me a lot about teamwork and conflict resolution. i really got to step outside my comfort zone through this program and that gave me valuable experience and insights into myself, including helping me to figure out what i’d like to pursue as a career. the industry collaboration that was a part of this program was truly incredible to get to participate in and i’m so grateful to rea australia and all our sponsors for the wonderful opportunities offered to us by this competition.

F1 in schools was definitely a demanding and high-energy competition that gave me a lot of experiences to use in the future, especially for planning and graphic design. I am extremely proud of the awards we achieved as a team, which we couldn’t have won without our amazing sponsors help. I’m very happy how f1 in schools went and I’m excited to use the experiences I had in the future.

F1 in Schools has brought me so many opportunities and great experiences! As a Design Engineer, I’ve developed a preliminary understanding of computer aided design software. This kind of CAD software is utilised in a broad range of engineering jobs. Architects, Interior Designers and Fashion Designers also employ various forms of CAD software, so who knows where this new skill will take me in the future. Of course, the competition has developed my team work and public speaking abilities, taught me to self-lead my learning and given me chances to interact with all sorts of different community groups, businesses and industry professionals. It’s also just been a really fun and exciting experience, and for all these opportunities I want to say thank you.

F1 in schools is such an amazing program and, I am so grateful that it was introduced to our school. Learning STEM in a practical environment I believe teaches you so much more than learning it in a classroom. Having the chance to not only learn the skills but to test them out in a hands on experience really gives you an understanding of STEM outside of school and in the workplace. What I learned that surprised me most was probably that although STEM stands for science technology and maths any combination of these topics isn’t going to be enough to emurse STEM into our our everyday lives, it won’t thrive if all of the different career areas don’t use each other. So without each different person in our team performing each of their rolls and communicating what they are doing and learning from each other the competition just wouldn’t have been possible. So I guess the experience for me was exciting and at times scary but also educational and I think that is the beauty of these opportunities

Albert Park Rotary was our first major sponsor with a generous donation of $1000, which really kick-started our whole project. Since then we’ve had a lot of luck gaining other sponsors, including Shell Australia who produced the video campaign with us. Shell is obviously a big company so they could be quite helpful on the funding side of things. We’re proud to say we now have over $5000 leftover to donate to our chosen charity One Girl. One Girl is a charity that's changing the world, one girl at a time. They work in Sierra Leone and Uganda to empower girls and women through educational opportunities so they can reach their full potential. If you check up on their website you will see that they have provided 431 girls with education scholarships and improved schools for 1,119 girls and boys. They also have an amazing program for females in business and an Ebola education program. The aim is to fight poverty and child marriage with girls education. This cause is important to us because our F1 in Schools experience was all about STEM education and girls in STEM fields, but over 130 million girls around the world aren’t in school at all. They’re not even receiving that base level education. We hope $5000 can help improve another girl’s future.
