1 Concerning a Civil Principality 9
By Brianna Gritton, and Karen Koon

2 Civil Principality: When a citizen is voted prince by his fellow citizens without using violence or wickedness.

3 How To Obtain Civil Principality
A citizen simply needs to gain the favor of the nobles or the people.

4 What Do They Want? The People: Don’t want to be oppressed/controlled or ruled by the nobles. The Nobles: Want to oppress/control and rule the people and have power.

5 Types Of Nobles Good Nobles: These nobles bind themselves entirely to the princes fortune. Bad Nobles: These nobles are selfish and will only benefit to their own fortune.

6 Bound to Princes Fortune
The nobles who help lead the prince to a successful reign should be honored and loved.

7 Not Bound The nobles who did not bind themselves to the prince should be feared and guarded against as if they were enemies.

8 “He who builds on the people, builds on mud”
Machiavelli calls this a trite statement. It’s true for a private citizen making a foundation. It’s false for a prince who has all the qualifications and encourages the people.

9 Overall Machiavelli is trying to point out that a prince should rely more on the people for his success as a prince. End
