2 Robert Hooke-1665 He looked at cork cells.
One of the first people to see cells. He looked at cork cells. Hooke came up with the term cell.

4 Anton van Leeuwenhoek - 1674
Developed a single-lens microscope that was much more powerful than Hooke’s. 1674 – Leeuwenhoek became one of the first people to describe living cells when he observed numerous single-celled organisms swimming in a drop of pond water

5 Leeuwenhoek’s Contribution:
He could see greater detail due to better microscope lenses and was the first to observe living cells.

7 Theodore Schwann 1839 Concluded that all living things are made up of cells. Schwann’s Contribution:

8 Reported that all cells come from pre-existing cells
Rudolf Virchow Virchow’s Contribution: Reported that all cells come from pre-existing cells

9 Cell Theory All living things are made up of cells.
All cells come from other living cells. Cells are the most basic unit of life. There is nothing living that is smaller than a cell.
