3 What’s In It For Us? To enhance and improve how we deal with calls for service A coherent framework for making decisions and assessing Threat, Harm, and Risk Suffolk CCR Training 2018

4 What is the NDM The mnemonic CIAPOAR can help users to remember the six key elements of the NDM. It also acts as an aid-memoire in aspects of decision making. Code of Ethics – Principles and standards of professional behaviour Information – Gather information and intelligence Assessment – Assess threat and risk and develop a working strategy Powers and Policy – Consider powers and policy Options – Identify options and contingencies Action and review – Take action and review what happened Suffolk CCR Training 2018

5 Code of Ethics Accountability Honesty Fairness Integrity Objectivity
You are answerable for your decisions, actions & omissions Fairness You treat people fairly Honesty You are truthful and trustworthy Integrity You always do the right thing Leadership You lead by good example Objectivity You make choices on evidence and your best professional judgement Openness You are open and transparent in your actions and decisions Respect You treat everyone with respect Selflessness You act in the public interest Suffolk CCR Training 2018

6 Information & Intelligence
Remember that you can only make a decision on the information that you have. The more information gathered the easier it is to make that decision on how to proceed. You may need to ask more questions and take more time when speaking with the reporting person. Consider your options of other systems: Storm – Objects and Previous Calls Athena/PNC (if you have access) All of these systems could significantly effect your decision making Suffolk CCR Training 2018

7 Risk – We will cover with THRIVE
Powers and Policy What police powers might be required? Is there any National guidance? Is there an SOP in place? What Legislation or Research Evidence may apply? Suffolk CCR Training 2018

8 Options Will be covered in THRIVE
Action and Review Action Implement the decision you have made Does anyone else need to know what you have decided? Review Continue to review your actions and closely monitor any actions taken by others as this could affect your decision making and on information gathered may change your action decisions. Suffolk CCR Training 2018

9 Recording Decision Making
It is important to know that decision makers are accountable for their decisions. In some circumstances it will be necessary to provide a rationale on how you have come to make that decision. The CAD plays an important role within the decision making so a brief rationale on the CAD remarks could assist those that are dealing with the incident. Remember – The more information you have the easier it is to make that decision and recording this on the CAD is essential to a third party dealing with that CAD. Suffolk CCR Training 2018
