3 Appointment and registration……. The supervisor: -
Appointment and registration……. The supervisor: - School PGR director and/or potential supervisor consider applications from the PGR admin. SREC must also be satisfied that the Candidate has met requirements from The CoP Conduct of Postgraduate Research - Primary Supervisors and Co-Supervisors must be employed by the University and be a member of a Research Centre - At least one member of the supervisory team must hold a PhD - Academics new to supervision should engage in co-supervision for at least one year, before they’re eligible as main supervisors. - Prior to re-registration, the Supervisor must complete an Annual - Progress Report and the candidate an Annual Self-Evaluation Report The student: - It’s the candidate’s responsibility to register, within the timeframe, at the start of the programme and beginning of subsequent years - The candidate must have completed the appropriate progression assessments (Interim Assessment and Internal Evaluation) before they can proceed to re-register

The Salford ‘S’ provides an overview of the progression expectations In addition to the formal progression points, you must meet with your Student 12 times within the academic year. These meetings must be recorded appropriately and UKVI Tier 4 students are required to upload forms For further details on progression and guidance

5 Progression points…… Learning Agreement -
Progression points…… Learning Agreement - Submitted within 3 months of study for full and part time students (Professional Doctorate candidates within 6 months) - Details the planned research (including ethical considerations) and the training needs/dates by which it should be completed - Must include consultation with the Supervisor and Co-Supervisor - A new, updated Learning Agreement (LA) be completed and agreed where there’s a change in supervision or the direction of the research - It is reviewed at each progression point updated as necessary The Interim Assessment - Takes place during months: 9-11 (full-time) and (part-time) students - Assesses the candidate's ability to progress, confirms the LA is completed or updated, ethical approval and appropriate training are undertaken - The panel comprises of a School's nominee and appropriate member of staff independent to the supervisory team approved by the Asc. The panel confirms that the candidate has reached a threshold of academic performance and can continue the doctorate. Where the threshold is not met, a repeat IA within 3 months is carried out, failure to successfully complete the repeat the Interim Assessment will result in transfer or withdrawal as approved by the SREC and PRAB The Internal Evaluation - Takes place between months (full-time), (part-time) and for a Professional Doctorate. The evaluation is an assessment, by a panel who review the candidate's continuing academic progress, confirm that the Learning Agreement has been updated and training undertaken - The panel includes a School’s nominee and another appropriate member of staff approved by the Asc. Dean Research & Enterprise (not part of the supervisory team)

The student cannot register for the following year until completed - The panel reports to the SREC and PRAB and recommends either: (i) Continuation of the candidate on the doctoral level Award; (ii) Transfer to another Research Award e.g. MPhil, MRes, MSc or LLM (iii) Termination of candidature - For further details:
