Application to our lives today Lesson 2
Corinthians Application to our lives today Lesson 2

1 Corinthians 1:10-17 Chloe wrote a letter to Paul saying that there were quarrels among the Corinthians What were those quarrels? People were choosing someone to “attach” themselves to Historical context: As mentioned last week, Athens was a little over 50 miles away from Corinth Philosophical influence was tremendous Each important philosopher led a gaggle of apprentice philosophers

1 Corinthians 1:10-17 The Corinthians were then forcing that structure upon their church They would pick a teacher to “follow” and there was apparently division among the congregation regarding which of their teachers was the best Paul, Apollos, Peter (Cephas), and Christ all had devoted Christian followers in Corinth who were (at least partially) rejecting the teaching of the others

1 Corinthians 1:10-17 What is the main issue that Paul is addressing here? What has happened within the Corinthian church because of this doctrine? Does this directly apply to the Church today? How do we apply it to our Christian walk?

1 Corinthians 1:10-17 10 Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same and that there be no divisions among you, but that you are joined perfectly together with the same mind and in the same judgment. Can we extend this to Christian denominationalism as well? Should “Christians” be unified because we all believe in Jesus?
