1 Respiratory System Structures
You need scissors, a glue stick, and your notebook. Share the glue sticks.

2 Cut out the structures and descriptions. Set them aside.
Glue the body to the next page in your notebook. Textbook page 40.

3 Air enters through your nose and mouth and enters your nasal cavity or nasal passages.
Cilia (tiny hairs) and mucus in your nasal cavity traps dirt, dust, and other things when you breathe.

4 Your larynx is your voice box.

5 Air travels through the trachea, which is the windpipe.
This is the passageway from your nasal cavity to your lungs.

6 Your right and left lungs are organs in your respiratory system.

7 In your lungs are bronchial tubes
In your lungs are bronchial tubes. They branch out throughout your lungs. At the ends of the tubes are the alveoli.

8 Alveoli are tiny air sacs.
They are a cell thick. Oxygen diffuses from the alveoli. Carbon dioxide is exchanged from capillaries. *this is where the circulatory and respiratory systems meet.

9 The diaphragm is a muscle below your lungs.
It contracts (pushes down) when you inhale. This is to make room for your lungs to expand. It relaxes when you exhale.
