2 Overview Purpose: To utilize gravitational potential energy to remove the bottle cap. The device: A series of leaver connected slopes in which a small mass (billiard ball) will transfer the PE to a larger mass (Bowling ball) which in turn will apply a force to the leaver used to pop the cap off.

3 Design/Construction Issues
Device was constructed on a plywood base Wood was used to create slopes which balls could slide down Wooden levers were attached to the slopes to transfer the energy of the balls Flathead screwdriver was used as a bottle opening device Broken glass

4 Energy Conversions 1st energy conversion 2nd energy conversion
Gravitational Potential of billiard ball converted to kinetic 2nd energy conversion Kinetic energy transferred into lever 3rd energy conversion Lever applies force to bottle cap

5 Conclusions Conservation of energy
The device was designed to convert gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy. Each energy conversion demonstrated how energy must be theoretically conserved in each conversion in order to perform a given mechanical task. Billiard ball+bowling ball+lever+screwdriver= Flying bottle cap!
