Believing in a certain set of values A group of people who share morals and values A lifestyle Something that is “followed” A person’s concept of how the world “works” Believing in something regardless of the restrictions of reality A concept constructed by humans to explain the universe and seemingly unexplainable events

3 What kinds of questions does religion try to answer?
How was Earth created? What happens when we die? What is right? What is wrong? Do we control our own actions and fates? What is our purpose in life?

4 Studying religion is important because…
It helps us understand other people, cultures, and ways of life Helps create empathy, respect, and understanding towards others It helps us have a better world view and to develop global literacy It allows us to “connect” with others Religion helps make a person who they are Nobody should be forced to study religion “Too much religion” can be a negative thing (extremism)

5 What do religions have in common?
A god/being/deity Sacred texts Traditions A concept of “after life” A place of worship “Complex set of beliefs” Symbols A sense of unity

6 How do religions differ?
Some are polytheistic and some are monotheistic Different physical representations of gods Different forms of sacred texts Different concepts of right and wrong Some religions have food restrictions Marriage rituals Clothing Punishments/rewards of after life
