1 Unit 2: Personal Mapping
When you think of preparing for college, you may think of taking tests like the ACT or SAT and sending applications to universities or colleges that interest you. But did you know that understanding your God-given interests, skills, and personality traits is even more important to preparing for college? In this unit you’ll develop a personal map to guide your exploration of career pathways and college or university choices. 3 Who am I? What do I value? What do I enjoy doing?
What are my strengths? What skills do I want to develop? How is God leading in my life? If you don’t know what you are good at and what is important to you, how will you pick a career, a major, or a university that are the right fit for you? In order to plan your actions now to best prepare for life after high school, this unit will help you find answers to questions such as: Who am I? What are my core values as a growing Christian? CLICK What do I enjoy doing? What volunteer and community service activities are fun for me? CLICK What are my strengths? What do other people say I do well? CLICK What skills do I want to develop? Transferable skills & core work values Writing a growth resume Building values, interests, skills and abilities Applying for a job and building interview skills This unit is designed to help you identify your God-given personality, your core values, interests and skills. With this information, you will develop a plan for using them to help you prepare for college. In lesson one, you’ll start out by identifying your personality type and vocational interests. CLICK In lesson two you will discover your transferable skills and core work values. CLICK Lesson 3 is an adventure in creating the resume you would like to have by the time you finish high school and a cover letter to positively introduce your resume. By completing this lesson, you’ll be better prepared to apply for jobs or volunteer and get job-shadowing opportunities now that will help you reach the goals on your growth resume. CLICK Through lesson 4’s activities, you’ll plan ways to keep developing your core values, interests, skills and abilities. CLICK Lesson five will guide you through the steps to apply for a job, and how to interview for jobs that can help you achieve your goals.
