2. What is One-to-One (1:1)?
One-to-One (1:1) is an initiative in Klein where the ratio of students to computers is one to one and students are able to take the device home. In Klein this program is in place at all of our secondary campuses.

3. Why now? What’s different?
With guidance from teachers, students will be able to have a variety of learning experiences – no longer chalkboards with paper and pencil. When each student has a device, it allows teachers to create an exciting learning environment that can challenge each student at their own level and pace. We have an obligation to prepare our students for the future. And we know digital tools and resources as well as time using technology will help our students be future ready.

4. What will my student receive?
Each student, upon meeting the criteria, will receive an individually assigned Lenovo 11e Yoga Touch Chromebook, a carrying case, and a charger. Students will be expected to bring their Chromebook to each class everyday inside of their provided carrying case. Students are not allowed to use alternative carrying cases as these were specifically designed for Klein’s Chromebooks and student needs.

5. What’s a Yoga Chromebook?
A Yoga Chromebook is able to go
into four different modes:
Laptop
Stand
Tent
Tablet
This allows students to
customize their learning
experience even further.

6. So what’s a Chromebook?
A Chromebook is a laptop that runs on a Chrome operating system (instead of an OS like Windows 10 or Mac Snow Leopard). Programs are not installed on a Chromebook, but rather “apps” or “extensions” are added to the Chrome browser. A Chromebook is designed to be connected to the Internet to use many cloud resources, but it still has limited capabilities off-line. Because there are not any programs, a Chromebook starts instantly after an initial login.

7. Safety & Security
Security is in place on each system to prevent certain activities and certain types of downloads (including extensions and apps).
Internet filtering software automatically filters all access to the Internet through District technology resources. While off campus, students will continue to be filtered on their Chromebook.
No software can filter 100% of improper content, so parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring their child’s access to the internet when the student is off campus.

8. Damages and Repair
Students have five school days after an incident (or discovery of an incident) to report any damages or theft to the campus repair center through the online Work Order System.
Students will be required to answer a series of questions to help gather more information about what is wrong with their Chromebook.
If the problem cannot be corrected quickly, a replacement Chromebook will be issued to the student. The replacement Chromebook will now become the student’s actual Chromebook.

9. Theft
If a student thinks their Chromebook is lost and/or stolen, they need to go to the campus repair center and fill out a “Missing Chromebook Report”.
If a student knows that their Chromebook has been stolen and already has a police case number, they need to go to the campus repair center and fill out a “Missing Chromebook Report”.
In either case the district will issue a replacement Chromebook to the student, if available, as soon as possible.

10. Cases
Students are expected to keep their Klein-ISD provided case in acceptable condition.
Devices can be confiscated if they are not using the appropriate, Klein ISD-provided case for the Chromebook.

11. Online Payment
Parents can go online and select if they would like to pay the $35 for the Accidental Loss/Damage Protection (non- refundable) or the $200 Chromebook Security Deposit (refundable). Parents only need to select one option ($35 or $200, not both).
When parents go online to pay they can also electronically sign the agreement form.

13. The following peripheral items are considered incidental, and are not covered by either plan. If lost, broken, damaged or stolen, the parent/guardian will assume full responsibility for repair or replacement cost.

16. G Suite for Education (GSFE)
As part of the 1:1 initiative, students will receive access to G Suite for Education (GSFE) through individual, District- provided GSFE accounts. GSFE is a suite of production products (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.) that enables collaboration with other students in real time and provides a place to store documents in a cloud environment, which allows access to documents and files from any device that has access to the Internet. Use of GSFE may require the collection of students’ personal information for the purpose of providing GSFE services to Klein ISD and its students. 17. Digital Citizenship
Students will be led through several courses on Digital Citizenship to ensure that students understand the best way to work in a digital environment with appropriate responsibility.
They will also be led through “Digital Onboarding” where they learn how to properly care for their Chromebook and how to access appropriate online resources.

18. Safeguards in the Classroom
In the classroom, teachers can monitor what students are doing using a software product called DyKnow Cloud. This software not only allows teachers to see what students are doing, but it also allows teachers to limit what students have access to during their class time. Teachers are also able to interact with students gathering real-time feedback on understanding that enables them to adjust their lessons appropriately to help all students master concepts.

19. FAQ
Can I decorate my Chromebook? No. Stickers and personalization are not permitted. Each Chromebook will have the student’s name on a label so it will be easy to identify.
Can I use my Chromebook on the bus? No. Students need to keep their Chromebook inside of the provided case at all times while traveling.
Can I get my Chromebook repaired somewhere else? No. Only Klein ISD technicians can service a Klein ISD Chromebook.
Can I clean my screen with 409 or Windex? No. Only a soft cloth should be used on the screen. If necessary, stop by the repair center and they will assist you in cleaning it.
Can I access the internet at home? Yes. Chromebooks can join existing wireless networks.

20. FAQ con’t
What if I forget to charge my Chromebook? There are classroom chargers available to use during class.
How am I going to get my classwork? Through our Learning Management System (LMS), Google Classroom
I don’t have internet at home, will I be able to use my Chromebook? Yes. You’ll be able to use it to work on schoolwork offline and when you return on campus you can upload any documents as necessary.
What if I lose my charger? You’ll need to purchase a replacement charger. Each charger has a unique number engraved to help students reunite with lost chargers.
What if I leave Klein? You’ll need to return your Chromebook and all equipment to the campus repair center.
