Reading Skills: Hearing the short /u/ sound in many different words, reviewing /a/, /e/, /i/ and /o/. Reading Strategy – Make the 1st sound and look at the picture to help with tricky words.
Language Skills: Introduce proper nouns using capital letters, review interrogative sentences
Math Skills: Using the commutative property of addition to gain fluency, practice counting nickels and pennies

Teacher Tips for Success
Reminders
This week you may have noticed a decrease in the number of times your child brought home a new Reading Folder book. The reason is that first grade teachers are in the process of administering 9-week reading assessments to determine each child’s independent reading level for this grading period. This assessment is one-on-one and takes about 15 minutes per child. Your student may have their regular reading group or may bring home an easy book or free choice book. Please remember that easy books are a valuable way for your child to build fluency and self-confidence in their reading, so please encourage your child’s efforts on these books as well.
