3 Dstl Space Programme – 2022 Vision
Uncontrolled copy when printed 07/04/2019 “Exploiting the Full Potential of Space for UK Defence and Security” We have built a thriving Space S&T programme, and have identified, designed, and developed innovative and resilient Space concepts and technologies, collaborating both nationally and internationally. These are on track to be exploited, and MOD now has enhanced understanding of the military potential of Space. This is underpinned by a growing UK Government, Industry and Academic technical capability in Space Science, Technology, Systems and Applications. 5 Dstl – US Air Force Initiative
Collaboration with US Air Force Office of Scientific Research, European Office of Aerospace R&D (EOARD)  UK/US initiative for SSA that leverages joint funding to build a combined community that delivers world class research for defence and security Deep Space (GEO and local environs) Seven proposals funded to date (3 from UK Universities, 4 from UK industry) 07 April 2019 UK OFFICIAL © Crown copyright 2018 Dstl

6 Project Argus UK OFFICIAL UK OFFICIAL
Citizen Science astronomy project that will attempt to obtain information on the behaviour and observability of components the RemoveDebris mission. RemoveDebris will have novel orbital characteristics and photometry. The development of this behaviour is of interest given the proposed 25 year deorbit limit for UK satellites. The RemoveDebris mission is a unique opportunity to observe closely manoeuvring targets The data obtained will provide an opportunity to analyse the impact of site reliability metrics upon orbital determination. 8 Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR)
National “Space ISR”? Play ‘leap-frog’ not ‘catch-up‘ Accelerate the UK’s scientific sector in a meaningful way for Earth observation Work across all of government to consider the challenges of having a single National Earth Observation Centre Space ISR is NOT just about satellites. It NOT just about data processing or exploitation. It only occurs when both are combined. ISR satellites without ground processing and exploitation is as useful as having a camera with no memory card. Whilst space is currently in vogue, it will only retain enduring and high investment levels if it provides National level utility. No individual agency can fund it all. And if it did then it would only have access to the data that it funds and collects. Space ISR therefore needs to meet the requirement of and be funded at the National level.
