1 McBean’s Gifted Classroom
THE SCHOOL YEAR IN REVIEW Third Grade A.C.E. Students Become Published Authors Third grade A.C.E. students wrote and illustrated their own book. The new authors each included a fable with the illustrations in the book. The book was then sent to the publishers. The result was a published work that the students were rightly quite proud of. Early reviews show that the book is a literary success and is on McBean’s best books to read list. The authors are planning to go on to write and publish more works. Their goal is to someday make the Times’ best seller list.

2 ME INSIDE OUT ALL ABOUT ME FIRST GRADE MY BODY SURE WORKS HARD!
ME INSIDE OUT MY BODY SURE WORKS HARD! First graders investigated what the body has to do to keep living. They created a working model of the respiratory system. The students also created a model of a lung in a glass and a heart in a bottle. Through investigation and discovery these students know what it takes to maintain a healthy body! ALL ABOUT ME First graders learn what makes their bodies tick. They learn through experimentation how to stay healthy as well as what to avoid. First graders made a fashion statement with their respiratory system vest. The students accessorized their vest with a “spinal column” back. They also created a model of a lung.

3 MOVEMENT MADE POSSIBLE
SECOND GRADE MOVEMENT MADE POSSIBLE I CAN MOVE! The work of the skeletal system became the work of the second graders as they investigated what each bone of the skeletal system does. The students were challenged to take a bucket of bones and create a human skeleton. The students learned why bones are different shapes and sizes depending on their job in the skeletal system. Note: This assembly team had no trouble assembling a really cool skeleton. THE RECIPE TO CREATE A BONE Can you name all the bones in the body? That was the challenge that second graders were tasked with. Second graders also built their own bone model using diagrams and research to create a cut-away model of a healthy bone.

4 CRIME SOLVERS MYSTERY SOLVED FOURTH GRADE CRIME NEWS 2071-2018
Fourth graders investigated a classroom that had been “broken into”. They examined all the forensic evidence available. First the student crime fighters developed a hypothesis of what they thought could have occurred based on the evidence. They presented their hypothesis along with the evidence they had collected to support their hypothesis to the rest of their “crime team”. MYSTERY SOLVED The crime fighters then used the evidence each team member had presented to solve the crime. Do you want to know who did it? You will have to become a fourth grade crime fighter to find out! Clues are gathered from many sources to help solve the mystery. Footprints are measured. Blood spatter is investigated. Traces of hair samples are examined for DNA evidence.

5 WE HAVE THE POWER MAKE IT POP FIFTH GRADE LIGHTS! 2071-2018
Fifth graders learned how to create circuits that would not only light their world but also how to cut the lights off. It takes a village to teach a fifth grader and what greater teacher than a village they create themselves? Fifth graders designed the buildings for their village using architectural design inspired by the famous architects they researched. They then created the circuitry that could light the village or turn the lights off. They were in control of the power of electricity! MAKE IT POP The students used 3-D pens to create the infrastructure that supported their village as well as the natural attributes their model city contained. The next step was that they were tasked with building a fully furnished tiny house that was ready to move in to. They designed the home as well as the furnishings. Now they just need renters. Anyone interested? Fifth graders got to light their world and well as create it in 3-D.
