Textbook pg. 274 Objective: The student will identify and extend patterns in sequences in order to provide future numbers.

2 Describe the pattern & extend it 3 numbers. 5, 8, 11, 13, …
10, 4, -2, -8,… 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8,… Arithmetic Sequence: sequence of numbers where the pattern/change is the same between each number (adding or subtracting) Common difference (d): the constant change

3 Explicit formula: a function that relates each term of a sequence to the term number 6, 8, 10  6 = term 1, 8 = term 2, 10 = term 3 A(n) = A1 + (n-1)d nth term 1st common term difference Find the 12th term of the sequence. 4) -1, 4, 9, 14,…

4 Find the 15th term of the sequence.
A(n) = 9 + (n-1)(-2) Write the first 5 numbers of the sequence. 6) A(n) = -3 + (n-1)(4)
