Active Voice Vs Passive Voice Active Voice The subject of the sentence performs the action of the predicate Ex. John threw the ball that broke the window.

2 Passive Voice The subject of the sentence receives the action of the predicate using a form of the verb “be” as a help verb. am be been was are being is were Ex. The horse was ridden into town by the old cowboy.

3 Change the following sentences from passive voice
to active voice. Computers are shipped to many foreign countries. (by?) The food is being prepared. (by?) The package was delivered yesterday. (by?) Dell ships the computers to many foreign countries. The chef is preparing the food. Sam delivered the package yesterday.

4 Change the following sentences from active voice
to passive voice. The snake bit the boy. Roylotte asked her to go to the dance. The hard tackle broke his arm. The boy was bitten by the snake. She was asked to the dance by Roylotte. His arm was broken by the tackle.

5 When deciding on whether or not passive or active voice
should be chosen, consider where you want the reader’s focus.
