2 What is a comma splice? the use of a comma to join two independent clauses Examples: Elizabeth was very proud, she was sure to react to Mr. Darcy’s comment at the ball. Elizabeth refused Mr. Collin’s proposal, this proves that she wanted to marry for love.

3 How can I fix a comma splice?
There are FOUR ways; we will learn three now. Use a period and capitalize the beginning of the next sentence (Rule 1) Use a , + FANBOYS (Rule 4A) Use a semicolon (Rule 5)

4 Practice Elizabeth was very proud, she was sure to react to Mr. Darcy’s comment at the ball. Elizabeth refused Mr. Collin’s proposal, this proves that she wanted to marry for love. The army trains its soldiers for every possible contingency and believes it will be victorious. The doctor believed that the patient had fully recovered the patient still felt lingering symptoms.

Write seven sentences using EACH FANBOYS to write about the state fair. Write another seven sentences using EACH FANBOYS to write about the beach. That’s a total of 14 sentences!
