Mark went to Harvard and initially only allowed Harvard students to use it The name comes from directories given to American University students In 2012 Facebook got their 1 billionth user

3 Instagram Instagram was developed by Facebook
Its initial release was October 6, 2010 Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger There was over 100 million users by April 2012 In 2013 Instagram grew by 23% and Facebook only grew by 3% The name Instagram comes from “Instant Camera” and “Telegram”

4 Twitter Twitter was founded on March 21, 2006
It was founded by Jack Dorsey There was 340 million tweets a day in 2012 In 2013 Twitter was one of the 10 most visited websites In May 2015 Twitter had more than 500 million users The name “Twitter” sounds like “chirps from birds” and that’s pretty much what the product was

5 Snapchat Snapchat was developed by Bobby Murphy and Evan Spiegel
It was released in September 2011 Both founders went to Stanford University In November 2015 snapchatters are sending 6 billion snaps per day The company is worth $10-$20 billion Snapchats original name was Picaboo The app mascot is called Ghostface Chillah

6 Skype Skype was releases in April 2003
Its original creators were Priit Kasesalu and Jaan Tallinn By 2010 they had 660 million users worldwide In September 2005 eBay bought skype for $2.6 billion In May 2011 Microsoft bought Skype for $8.5 billion After that, Skype was included in almost all Microsoft products

7 Netflix (Although it’s not really a social media app)
Netflix was founded on August 29, 1997 It was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph Netflix has over 75 million subscribers Netflix has over 1 billion movies and TV shows The idea of Netflix came to Hastings after returning a DVD well past its due date and having to pay $40 extra Netflix originally mailed DVDs and CDs to their customers

8 Vine Vine was developed by Twitter
Its original authors were Dom Hoffmann, Rus Yusupov, Colin Kroll It was founded in June 2012 Videos are only six seconds long As of December 2015 Vine had over 200 million users In October 2012 Twitter bought it for $30 million On April 9, 2013 Vine became the most downloaded free app on the app store

9 Myspace MY space was founded on August 1, 2003
It was founded by Chris DeWolfe From MySpace was the largest social networking in the world In June 2011 Specific Media Group and Justin Timberlake bought Myspace for $35 million

10 Youtube Youtube was founded on Febuary 14, 2005
It Was founded by steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim In November 2006 Google bought Youtube for 1.65$ billion They came up with the idea after having a hard time sharing videos at a dinner party You Tube was originally a video dating site All together (meaning the entire world) we watch 2.9 billion hours of youtube per month
