4. What is Honors Pre-Calculus all about?
Prep course for Calculus
Most students will go to either AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, or AP Statistics next year.
“Soph/Jr” level course
More rigorous than Algebra 2/Honors Algebra 2
More HW at times than Algebra 2/Honors Algebra 2
Less time in class to work on HW
Develop the responsibility to ask questions!
HW is online with “MyMathLab” – no physical text book!
Work on prepping for the SAT
Calculator vs. Non-Calculator
Need to have their own Calculator
NOT a part of a phone/iPod (can’t use these on placement tests)
Recommended: TI 83/84 or TI Inspire

5. Summative vs. Formative
Formative – “for learning”
HW, quizzes, class activities
15% of each semester grade
Summative – “show me what you’ve learned”
Chapter tests
75% of each semester grade
Final Exam
10% of each semester grade

6. HW is KEY!
Strong correlation between doing HW & being successful in a course.
HW = practice, knowing what questions still need to be asked, knowing if you still need a little extra help, etc.
HW is assigned most nights to practice and prepare for tests (summative evaluations).
HW is online through MyMathLab.
Instant feedback and checking
Unlimited amount of practice and re-trying same types of problems if needed
Now will be graded for accuracy

7. Test Retake Policy
To be eligible, the student must have all work for the current chapter turned in by test day.
The student will meet with me to determine an appropriate re-learning task to complete.
The student will need to complete the re-learning task before re-taking a similar version of the original test.
All of this needs to be completed by 3pm of the 5th school day after going over the test in class.
The re-take grade WILL REPLACE the original score, whether it’s better or worse than the original.

9. What Course is Next Year?
Some level of Calculus
*** A sophomore who takes AP Calculus BC their junior year and passes it with a 4 or 5 would be eligible to take Calculus 3 their senior year.
