Accommodation Strategy

2 Accommodation The council are planning what sort of places are best for people to live in. They asked people with learning disabilities what they think.

3 We spoke to people who live in lots of types of housing.
They told us the good things and the bad things about where they live.

4 Supported Living People like supported living because they can make choices about how they live. They decide how they spend their money.

5 Supported Living People say they learn new skills. Like shopping and cooking. They like to invite people into their own home. They feel proud.

6 Supported Living People who do not go to a day service say they do not feel part of the community. Some people feel lonely.

7 Supported Living It can take a very long time to find a place.
Sometimes outreach support is not enough

8 Residential Older people get good support.
People like to be with their friends and have staff around.

9 Residential Some people would like to have more choices
People say they do not go out as much as they would like to. Some people would like to have more choices

10 Shared Lives People like being part of a family style home.
They like to have freedom to go out.

11 Shared Lives Some people say their needs are not met because there are too many demands on their carers.

12 Independent Living People like to make their own choices and have their own space.

13 Independent Living It is hard to get help when things go wrong
Bidding for housing is difficult.

14 Independent Living Some people say they feel lonely .
Other people are scared of their neighbours

15 What people say about the strategy
Some people might still need residential care. People do not understand different types of housing.

16 People do not understand tenancies
People do not understand tenancies. They are worried they might have to move. People still need a day service when they live in the community.

17 People with high support needs do well in supported living.
People with little or no support are most vulnerable.
