March – UGA Campus (Athens, GA) Overview of forestry in GA Plant ID lectures and labs (major species and forest types) Current topics/issues in southern forestry and natural resources March – Jones Ecological Center (see Longleaf pine restoration Fuel reduction burn Bald cypress forests March – SW Georgia Weyerhaeuser loblolly pine plantations Harvesting operations (including salvage logging after Hurricane Michael) Interfor pine sawmill and WestRock pulp mill Fort Benning / Nature Conservancy About Dr. Schimleck Was professor of wood quality at UGA for 10½ years At UGA taught courses on wood science and technology, wood identification, and dendrology Jointly taught wood products manufacturing and forest harvesting component of UGA’s forestry field camp
