2 carved Define: cut Example: A strong river carved this canyon.
Ask: What other things can be carved?

3 clues Define: hints that help solve a problem.
Example: These paw prints are clues that a dog walked here today. Ask: What clues tell you that it might rain?

4 grand Define: Large and splendid.
Example: Diane sat and gazed at the grand view of the river. Ask: What do you think would make a grand view?

5 landmark Define: An important building or place.
Example: The Statue of Liberty is an American landmark. Ask: What other landmarks can you name?

6 massive Define: very big.
Example: The boaters looked up at the massive stone cliff. Ask: What is another word for massive?

7 monument Define: A building or statue that is made to honor a person or event. Example: This monument honors the leaders of our country. Ask: Can you describe a monument you have seen?

8 national Define: belonging to a nation.
Example: The Fourth of July is a national holiday. Ask: Can you name another national holiday?

9 traces Define: signs of some past thing.
Example: In the morning we found traces, or small amounts, of snow on the plants. Ask: What is another word for traces?
