Thank Goodness for all of our Friendship Force Volunteers!

2 Members of Friendship Force are themselves volunteers
All Friendship Force members are unpaid volunteers and are not motivated by pay

3 Why Volunteer?? We all need to understand the dynamics of working with volunteers and understand why they donate their time and talent to the organization.

4 What motivates us to volunteer?
A chance to make a difference A chance to use a skill or talent An avenue to a more balanced life An opportunity to give something back An opportunity to meet new people An opportunity for personal growth and self esteem

6 Match The Job To The Volunteer
Get to know the skills of your volunteers Evaluate the requirements of the job How much time does it require?

7 Match the Job to the Volunteer’s Skills
What skills/knowledge does the job require? Look for the member who is a good fit for the job Consider a member skills survey

8 Clearly Define Expectations
Develop detailed job descriptions Spell out time commitment and length of assignment Spell out exact duties Define who the volunteer reports to

9 Provide Appropriate Training and Information
Hold a formal training session or casually over a cup of coffee to ensure that they have all the information they need to complete the job and be a success If making assignments during a committee meeting, identify what will need to be completed within what time frame.

10 Assure Appropriate Follow-Up
Use clear deadlines to keep tasks on schedule Progress Reports serve as early warning signs for problems Make it easy for volunteers to report their progress and success.

11 Treasure the Volunteer
Get members involved in the Organization as soon as they join Help them become successful Success begets more success Make it fun…and worthwhile!

12 Thank and Recognize Volunteers
Thanks and recognition are critical factors in motivating and retaining volunteers Look for creative and fun ways to recognize volunteers in varied settings Public recognition often motivates others to join in the effort
