I agree that student interests and learning styles are important. Setting high expectations for student performance is also important. Making connections within lessons to broader life and real-life application and being present to students and their needs is also key.
Student interests must be taken into account in planning. Also, all students do not learn the same way; this also needs to considered in teaching and learning. Holding students accountable and stressing the importance of them taking interest in their own learning is important.
