3 The Problem With over 60,000 students, 3,700 teachers, 3,800 support staff and administrators, TUSD is in need of a simple cost – effective way to train teachers and staff to use new technologies TUSD is one of the largest school districts in Arizona. The problem is to find a simple and cost –effective way to train teachers and staff to use new technologies, utilizing the tools available in labs and on workstations. Currently each classroom has a teacher workstation; the elementary schools include a K-6th grade technology lab and 7th-8th grade technology lab; and each high school is equipped with four to five technology labs. All desktops and labs are rich with software and devices. With the large number teachers and staff spread throughout the district it is very difficult to conduct training on new technologies.

4 The Need A District Technology Training Plan Web – based training
Unlimited Access Cost effective! The solution web-based training and accessible to teachers and staff from school or home. A district training website. Once this is established the district will not have to pay for teacher in service days, training will be virtual.

5 The Audience District with over 60,000 students and staff.
This website will be designed for all teachers, staff, and students. Teachers, staff and students will be able to access the website from at home or school. It will be designed in both English and Spanish for those with English as a second language. This will also be useful to the district for accessing statistics and accountability of traning.

6 Goals and Objectives Goal One: To provide the Tucson Unified School district professional development in technology, through the use of web-based training. Goal Two: Teachers, students and staff will learn to use media server to publish presentations, and to access and view streaming video. Goal Three: Teachers and staff will learn to use hardware and software to enhance media rich classroom instruction. Goal 1. To provide the Tucson Unified School district professional development in technology, through the use of web-based training. a. Teachers, and staff members will be required to conduct 8 hours of on-line training every quarter. b. Each school will be responsible for tracking and reporting training to the district. Goal 2. Teachers, students and staff will learn to use media server to publish presentations, and to access and view streaming video. a. This training will come from the technical training modules locate on the district training website. Goal 3. Teachers and staff will learn to use hardware and software to enhance media rich classroom instruction. a. This training will come from the technical training modules locate on the district training website Instruction is unlimited!

7 Content and Procedural Analysis
This is a flow chart that outlines the process of the DTTP. First is the design and district approval of the website. The design will come from a district wide teacher in service day along with the technology coordination team that will design the website. Once the website is approved a timeline for implementation to all of the schools will be established and the purchase of the hardware and software, and servers will be made. A test school will be identified and implementation will start. This school will be where the district works out the networking “bugs” and allows the school to use the website on a closed network in order to monitor it’s progress. Once the testing is done, additional schools will be added.

8 This is the overall network of the district training website
This is the overall network of the district training website. As you can see you will be able to access this site from home or school, or even your PDA! This is very valuable when traveling to conferences, or giving briefs at different locations. Again, the sky is the limit.

9 Instructional Strategies
Quarterly Training Annual training survey This is a large school district with over 7,000 personnel. It has a very strict budget when it comes to training. There isn’t money to hire outside training, and logistically it is tough to conduct teacher in-service training with the number of employees. The solution for this district to save money is to have web-base training available for the staff to access from home or school. The key to the programs success is having a great technology coordination team to design the training and also track the training. The staff will be required to log their hours of training and each school will have to report the training to the district. The staff will be required to conduct eight hours of training a quarter. This will allow the district to track training. At the end of each year the staff will be required to complete a survey on the training. This survey will help in the development of future training.

10 Materials Production and design of the district training website
Purchase of media server, and other hardware and software needed One time teacher – in service day Nov 2008 Self explanatory

11 Field Test and Revision
First test school identified: February 2009 No other school will be added to the network until they pass their field test Once the website is designed and approved the Field Test will begin. We plan to have the first test school up and running by Feb 09. No other school will be added until they pass the field test.

12 Evaluations Quarterly 8 hours of documented training
Annual Evaluations Quarterly training will be mandatory by all teachers and staff. This will be tracked by the Technology coordination team at the district level. Annual evaluations of the website training will be mandatory in order to update and produce better training for the next year.

13 Questions or Comments Everyone has been provided an electronic and printed copy of the District Technology Training Plan Questions, comments or concerns can be ed NLT 1 Dec 08 The final DTTP will be approved for implementation NLT 30 Dec 08
