Cell Transport Vocabulary

Cell Membrane A “thin skin” that regulates what can enter and leave the cell.

Semi - permeable Only certain substances can pass through

Passive Transport The movement of molecules across the cell membrane without the use of energy.

Diffusion The movement of molecules from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration.

Osmosis The diffusion of water through a cell membrane

Active Transport Using energy to transport molecules across a cell membrane.

Endocytosis The process in which a cell surrounds a large particle to bring it into the cell

Exocytosis A vesicle or bubble forms around a molecule and brings it to the cell membrane to release it outside the cell

Reading Assignment Read pages
Complete a venn diagram for each of the following: Diffusion –vs- Osmosis Active -vs- Passive transport Endocytosis – vs- Exocytosis Write a summary paragraph about what you read. (4 to 5 sentences)

Super Slueth Find someone who can name the 4 things all cells have.
Find someone who can tell you 3 ways plant cells are different than animal cells Find someone who can give you an example of a prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell. Find someone who knows 2 types of passive transport. Find someone who knows 2 types of active transport. Find someone who knows how active transport differs from passive transport. Find someone who knows how eukaryotic cells are different than prokaryotes Find someone who knows what structure in a cell regulates transport. Find someone who can explain what selectively permeable means.
