1 What makes the world go ‘round.
The Sun & The Earth What makes the world go ‘round.

2 The Sun The sun is 93 million miles away from Earth
You could fit one million Earths inside of the sun The sun has a very strong force of gravity, which keep all of the planets orbiting around it The sun is huge ball of hot, glowing gases, mostly hydrogen and helium The core of the sun can be as hot as 25 million degrees Fahrenheit In the core hydrogen is changed into helium, and huge amounts of energy are given off The sun provides Earth with light and heat Why is this important for our home planet? The Sun

3 The Sun Sunspots cooler and more magnetic regions of the sun
Solar Flares release of gas and plasma from the sun

4 The Sun The sun, it’s actually…a star! It is one of billions of stars that make up The Milky Way Galaxy. Take a look up close!

5 Earth Sun

6 -It is located in our solar system
Where is Earth? -It is located in our solar system -Which is inside the Milky Way Galaxy -Which is in the Universe

7 Earth is the third planet from the sun It has one satellite, or moon
The force of gravity on Earth keeps the moon orbiting around and the atmosphere, including the air we breath, from floating into space The atmosphere is composed of oxygen and nitrogen, as well as a small amount of other elements; it also helps protect us from the sun’s radiation The Earth

8 one revolution around the sun = 365 days
Revolution/Orbit one revolution around the sun = 365 days

9 one rotation of Earth’s axis = 1 day
