2 Ratios and Proportions Vocabulary
Unit rate- a rate in which the first quantity is compared to 1 unit of the second quantity Complex fractions- a fraction where either the numerator or the denominator is a fraction or both Proportional relationships- the relationship among a group of ratios that are equivalent Constant of proportionality- what the unit rate is called in a proportional relationship

You can solve for a unit rate using division OR a proportion Remember to always include your units Be sure you can complete Examples w/ money (ex. cost per ounce) Examples w/ complex fractions

4 Proportional or Not? Know how to determine whether the following are proportional Tables (y divided by x) Graphs (straight line through the origin) Equations (in the form y = kx) Extra Resources: study guide, common assessments, IP: p. 122

5 Percent Vocabulary Markup- percent added to the cost of an item to determine the selling price Simple interest- a percent of an amount borrowed that is paid to the lender in addition to the amount borrowed Tax- a percent of a purchase added to the purchase and paid to a government Gratuity- a percent added on to the cost of a service Commission- a percent of a sales amount awarded to the person making the sale
