James “Bond” Armisted Position: Slave/Spy Vital Stats: James Armisted acted as an American spy, gaining the trust of the British Generals. Information he supplied was crucial to George Washington being able to defeat Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, the final battle of the American Revolution. Cool Fact: The Virginia representative assembly freed after the war for his important service. All Star Moment: At Yorktown, he was able to sneak out the British battle plans. Question: How did he help the Colonial Army win?

Ben “The Negotiator” Franklin Position: Author/Negotiator Vital Stats: Regarded as one of the most intelligent men of his era, Ben Franklin was key to spreading Revolutionary ideas through his published essays. He later helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Revolution and earned America its freedom. Cool Fact: Ben Franklin was an accomplished publisher, inventor, philosopher, politician, postmaster… the list goes on. All Star Moment: Ben Franklin helped Thomas Jefferson write the Declaration of Independence. Question: What role did Ben Franklin play in ending the war

King George “The Turd” III Position: Political Leader Vital Stats: King George III ruled the British Empire during the American Revolution. He insisted that the colonies obey strict rules established to govern Great Britain, pay high taxes, and and he refused to give up his claims to the colonies until the very end. Cool Fact: Long after the American Revolution, King George III suffered from mental illness. All Star Moment: After the Treaty of Paris, King George III agreed to treat the new United States as Independent and free. Question: How did King George’s actions anger the colonists?

Position: Public Speaker/Motivator Vital Stats: A patriot known as a firebrand (someone who lights a fire in peoples minds and hearts) from Boston. Known as a trouble maker by the British who called him a public enemy, an outlaw, and a rebel. They also wanted to hang him. He led boycotts against the British and helped create and lead the Sons of Liberty. Cool Fact: Attended the 1st and 2nd Continental Congress All Star Moment: Helped mastermind the Boston Tea Party and helped ignite the Revolution Question: What act of civil disobedience did he organize and what group did he lead in this act? Vital Stats: She wrote plays in opposition of the British actions and support of the revolutions. She was known as the “Conscience of the American Revolution.” All Star Moment: Wrote a play about the British who were blockading Boston, titled The Blockade. She used her mind and wit to turn Loyalists into Patriots. Question: How did she raise support for the patriot cause? Mercy “Show No Mercy” Otis Warren

Position: Politician Vital Stats: Patrick Henry was a politician from Virginia who helped create anti-British feelings. He wrote one of the first documents opposing the Stamp Act. Cool Fact: Patrick Henry tried and failed at several businesses before becoming a politician All-Star Moment: When Virginia was deciding if they should fight in the Revolutionary War, Patrick Henry proclaimed “Give me Liberty or Give me Death!” The colony immediately voted to go to war. Question: What did he mean by “give me liberty of give me death”? Patrick “Give me Liberty” Henry

Position: Spy and Financer Vital Stats: Haym Solomon served as a spy for the Colonists and helped prisoners held by the British escape. He later helped raise money for the Revolution so they could continue to pay the salaries of troops and buy materials Cool Fact: Haym was arrested by the British for helping prisoners escape. He then escaped from them. All Star Moment: When George Washington needed money to go fight the final battle at Yorktown, Haym was the one who provided it. Haym “Money Man” Salomon

Bernardo de “Gulf of Mexico” Galvez Position: Spanish military leader Vital Stats: Bernardo de Galvez helped smuggle weapons and ammunition up the Mississippi River to the colonists. When Spain declared war on Great Britain to help the colonists, he successfully attacked the British base in Florida and won control of the area for the Spanish. Cool Fact: Galveston, Texas is named after him. All Star Moment: His capture of several British bases in the Gulf of Mexico allowed much needed supplies to get to the colonies. Question: How did Bernardo de Galvez and Spain help in the fight against the British?

Thomas “Write it Down” Jefferson Position: Politician and Writer Vital Stats: Jefferson was elected to take part in the Second Continental Congress to discuss the fighting between Colonists and the British. As the mood moved towards declaring independence, he was nominated to write a Declaration of Independence. With the help of others, he wrote the document that would officially separate the US from Great Britain. Cool Fact: As the 3rd President, Jefferson banned new slaves from the U.S. in 1807 All Star Moment: Jefferson’s introduction of the Declaration is one of the most famous lines in history “All men are created equal” Question: How did Jefferson’s famous document change our relationship with Great Britain

Position: Ship Captain Vital Statistics: John Paul Jones was an American Ship Captain who helped take the war against Great Britain outside of the Colonies. He fought several battles at sea, and destroyed several British ships. Cool Fact: He was born in Scotland, and after the Revolution, served in the Russian Navy. All Star Moment: After capturing the British ship the Serapis, the war became terrifyingly close to the British citizens. Vital Stats: A French commanding general in the colonial army and believed in the liberty the Americans were fighting for. Cool Fact: He disobeyed the King of France and came to America even before the French had declared war on Great Britain All Star Moment: Marquise de Lafayette trapped British General Cornwallis at Yorktown long enough for other American and French troops to arrive and force the British to surrender Position: Soldier Question: How did Marquise de Lafayette and the French help win the final battle of the American Revolution? Vital Stats: An Enlightenment thinker who wrote and spoke about what are our natural rights and how they should be respected in the political system. Impacted the writings of Thomas Jefferson especially in the Declaration of Independence where he writes about our natural rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness All Star Moment: Said that governments should be run for the people, not for their rulers. Vital Stats: Named the Commander-in-chief of the continental army, was a delegate at the Continental Congress and was the chairman of the Philadelphia Convention.  Washington gained military experience as an officer in the British Army fighting in the French and Indian War. All Star Moment: Led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolution and was later elected the first president of the United States of America. Vital Stats: As a lawyer he defended the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre, knowing it could ruin his business and reputation, because of his belief in the right to a fair trial. Helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary War. All Star Moment: Helped Thomas Jefferson revise the Declaration of Independence. Vital Stats: During the war Abigail wrote many letters to her husband John about all that was happening. Over the years they wrote over 1,000 letters to each other. It is from these letters that we know what it must have been like on the home front during the Revolutionary War.  All Star Moment: Abigail Adams writes to John Adams, urging him and the other members of the Continental Congress to “remember the ladies” when forming the new country. Vital Stats: Wentworth Cheswell was an African American teacher in America who enlisted in the Continental Army to fight in the revolution. All Star Moment: Cheswell fought in the battle of Saratoga, helping to defeat the British. This victory would help convince the French to help the Americans, becoming the turning point of the war Position: Soldier Question: How did help serve his country during the Revolution.
