We understand that it can be difficult to express what help you need. If someone else knows you really well we want them to be involved too.

3. What is the Self Assessment Framework for Autism and what does it do?
It’s about collecting data and information on all the services that people with Autism use in Bedfordshire.
Using this information to better understand and plan for services in the future that will meet your health and social care needs.
We understand for individual's with autism; meeting new people or visiting new places can , for some, be difficult. By offering a variety of means to complete an assessment we can work in a way that best suits an individual.

4. What information is collected?
Information around how we plan the services that you use for example how we use the Autism Act 2009.
How many front line staff are trained specifically in working with people with Autism.
Information about how many people are using NHS and social care services and the level of support being provided.
Information about how we work with other agencies including Bedfordshire Police and Employment Services.

5. Diagnosis Information is collected about:
The number of people with autism who are helped to receive support and how long it takes for people to receive the help they need.
How services meet different people’s needs, for example, people with autism as well as those who also have a learning disability or also have a mental health condition.
We understand that it can be difficult to express what help you need. If someone else knows you really well we want them to be involved too.

6. Care and Support The SAF asks us to report:
The number of people with autism who are eligible to receive social care.
Whether we have a single contact point where people with autism can get information and signposting.
Whether all advocates working with people with autism are specifically trained.
Whether carers of people with autism are offered a social care support assessment.

7. Staff Training The SAF asks us to report on:
The local authority training plan
The staff who have Autism training available to them
Are people that have Autism or their families included in the design of the training?

8. What we learnt from the 2018 SAF: The good
The Tri-borough Autism Partnership
Reasonable adjustments are being made at council services/ transport and leisure
Transition services
Diagnostic pathway, no one diagnosed outside of Bedfordshire

9. What we learnt from the 2018 SAF: Could be better
Data collection on Autism is different across Bedfordshire councils.
Further use of reasonable adjustments in health and community.
Better work with Bedfordshire police.
Autism training plans.
No court engagement.
No autism specific SALT.
Hate crime statistics specific to Autism. Training to appropriate adults

Have good data collection across Bedfordshire.
Personalised care.
Use data to inform strategic decision making.
Autism specific housing strategy and plans.
Working with Bedfordshire Police.
Working with wider Criminal Justice System.

Using this information to better understand and plan for services in the future that will meet health and social care needs.

14. What we need to do today
Part of the SAF is to ask the Autism Partnership Board to sign off the documents.
There are copies of each council area’s SAF available.
