1 11.5 Explore Solids Mrs. vazquez Geometry

2 g-gmd.2.4 Essential Question:
How is Euler’s Theorem to our unit of study? Objective: Students will be able to identify solids and their parts.

3 polyhedron A solid bound by polygons (faces) that enclose a single region of space. edge: intersection of two faces vertex: a point where three or more edges meet

4 Polyhedra Include: prisms & pyramids Does not include: cones cylinders
spheres

5 naming polyhedra Prisms:
named by the shape of its base (on parallel planes) Pyramids: named by the shape of its base

6 convex/concave

7 Euler’s Theorem The # of faces (F), vertices (V), & edges (E) of a polyhedron are related by the formula F + V = E + 2.

8 regular polyhedra A polyhedron is regular if all its F are ≅ polygons.
Platonic Solids:

9 cross sections The intersection of a plane with a solid.
