1 National Honor Society Parent/Student Information Night

3 Eligibility Juniors & Seniors with a GPA of 92 or higher are considered “academically eligible”

4 Selection Process Students should complete the NHS Candidate Form and it to Mrs. Davis no later than 2:30 pm on Friday, Sept 14th Students will receive a reply as a receipt within 24 hours Students who do not submit a form or whose form is submitted late will still be considered, but their information will not be included Students who are not interested in submitting a form are asked to see Mrs. Davis or Mrs. Stuart to sign off

5 Selection Process cont.
Teachers, counselors, advisors and coaches will receive the NHS Candidate Forms and will be asked to rate the students (who they have contact with) in the areas of leadership, service, and character. They will also have the opportunity to share comments about specific students.

6 Selection Process cont.
The ratings and comments are compiled. The NHS selection committee (5 anonymous faculty members) will meet several times during the month of October and review each student’s Candidate form, ratings, comments & disciplinary history. They will discuss each student individually and vote on the each student. Students who receive a majority of the votes are “selected” for NHS.

7 Selection Process cont.
All students will be notified by mail regarding selection in early November. Students who are not selected will be informed of the area(s) that the selection committee felt that they were in need of improvement. Juniors who are not selected, who maintain a GPA of 92 or higher will be eligible again during their senior year. The induction ceremony will be held on Tuesday November 20th at 7pm for students who are selected.

8 Selection Requirements
Scholarship, Leadership, Service & Character Students who are eligible have already demonstrated scholarship In order to be selected, students must show a commitment to leadership & service to the school & community, and demonstration of good character

9 Non-Selection & Appeals
The decision of the selection committee is FINAL Appeals will only be heard if an act of discrimination or a procedural error can be proven In cases of non-selection for juniors, the advisors will be available to meet with students who would like suggestions for the following year

10 Membership Requirements
Students who are selected are required to maintain 80% attendance at required events Students must maintain the required GPA of 92 or higher Students must continue to demonstrate the degree of leadership, service and character which led to their selection Students who do not meet the requirements after selection will be required to meet with the selection committee for membership review

11 Candidate form Information Sessions
The advisors will be available after school to provide assistance with candidate forms 2:15-3pm in Room 18 Thursday, Sept 6 Tuesday, Sept 11 Wednesday, Sept 12
