1 Origami Noise Maker By Ashley Hastings

2 Goal and Objective Goal: Objective:
The students will investigate geometric figures. Given a piece of newspaper, the student will use both the horizontal and vertical lines of symmetry to construct different polygons. Given a folded triangle, the student will identify the type and angles of the given triangle.

3 Origami: where did it come from?
Japanese term for paper folding ori: a folding kami or gami: paper Most origami constructions are paper models of objects; can be animals, spacecrafts, etc.

4 Lets begin!

5 Tear the newspaper in half

6 Orient vertically, and fold the corners into the center (along the y axis)

7 After all corners are folded, fold the paper along the horizontal line of symmetry

8 Fold the trapezoid along the vertical line
Fold the trapezoid along the vertical line. Place your thumb between the top and second leaf on the left edge and pull the top leaf to the right. Press the paper down to form a square

9 Fold the right side of the square on top of the left side, this will create an isosceles right triangle. Flip over, and do the same to the other side.

10 Now you will have a thick stack of isosceles triangles
Now you will have a thick stack of isosceles triangles. Grab the thin corner of the triangles and hold with the right angle facing away from you. While holding the corner with your two fingers, flick the paper downward in one quick motion as though you are swinging a hammer and ….POP! Now you have a noise maker!
