1 Programming for Computer Games
Ao5

2 Task AO5 Specify and plan a simple game demonstration
using a game authoring system or simple programming language

3 Pass Candidates specify and plan a simple game demo to a basic level, outlining functionality without any particular level of detail or depth. Basic flowcharting skills are demonstrated.

4 Merit Candidates efficiently analyse and plan their own game demo using paper design and flowcharting techniques. The specification will be feasible and well thought through.

5 Distinction Candidates will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the game development process and an understanding of the production procedures used in the modern game development environment. They effectively analyse and plan their own game demo. Flowcharting skills, algorithmic analysis and application of control structures are used to a very high standard.

6 Requirements Plan project Specify functionality Paper design Flowchart

7 FlowCharts

8 All those symbols.... Most flow charts are made up of three main types of symbol: Elongated circles, which signify the start or end of a process. Rectangles, which show instructions or actions. Diamonds, which show decisions that must be made

9 All those symbols.... Within each symbol, write down what the symbol represents. This could be the start or finish of the process, the action to be taken, or the decision to be made.

10 Starter Activity Using these three symbols create a basic flowchart for today at the Bistro.

11 Paper Design Rough draft of character (within the limitations of Kudo)

12 Paper Design A comic strip design of a section of the gameplay
6 Panels Colour Annotated stating what is happening

13 Specify Functionality
What will your game do and why What is its purpose What elements are programable What events will happen and be registered

14 Ideas Games must set you up against an objective
Collect a number of coins Race a lap Shot a target.

15 Merit Candidates efficiently analyse and plan their own game demo using paper design and flowcharting techniques. The specification will be feasible and well thought through.

16 Final Game Output A basic game that is playable on the xbox.
An introduction to the game, and the game in motion, will be videoed and embedded into your website. Kodo must be downloaded and game developed over the easter holidays.

17 Final Documentation Output
Introduction and Functionality Character Development Storyboards Detailed Flowcharts. Flowcharts
