3 What is Networking? And Why Should I do it?
Networking is meeting people and building relationships in order to reach your goals and further your career. As high school students contemplating your future career and perhaps searching for part-time employment, there are 3 good reasons to network: You could hear about an open position. A friend works at HEB. You have told her that you would like to work there too. When a position opens up, she lets you know, so that you can put in your application.

4 What is Networking? And Why Should I do it?
It will help you gain insight into the career you are interested in. Are you interested in becoming a doctor, a lawyer, or a social worker? Have you talked to someone that has worked in that career? You could ask questions to make sure the career is a good fit for you. What do you do day-to-day? What is the pay? What kind of college major will I need? Etc. This person may even be able to get you a volunteer or part-time position, so you can try it out. It could help you get into your dream school. One of your teachers graduated from Texas A&M University, you want to go there as well. By discussing your goals, your teacher may be willing to write you a letter of recommendation or introduce you to an admissions counselor. These are all good examples of how networking can help you reach your goals and learn about your future career.

5 Networking Practice Using your top career from last class, who are some people that you know who have that job? It could be a friend’s dad or your aunt. If not, is there a teacher you could ask who may know someone? We are here to help. Find a person, write out a list of 10 questions, and make sure the career is a good fit for you.
