3. What is Networking? And Why Should I do it?
Networking is meeting people and building relationships in order to reach your
goals and further your career.
As high school students contemplating your future career and perhaps searching for part-time employment, there are 3 good reasons to network:
You could hear about an open position. A friend works at HEB. You have told her that you would like to work there too. When a position opens up, she lets you know, so that you can put in your application.

4. What is Networking? And Why Should I do it?
It will help you gain insight into the career you are interested in. Are you interested in becoming a doctor, a lawyer, or a social worker? Have you talked to someone that has worked in that career? You could ask questions to make sure the career is a good fit for you. What do you do day-to-day? What is the pay? What kind of college major will I need? Etc. This person may even be able to get you a volunteer or part-time position, so you can try it out.
It could help you get into your dream school. One of your teachers graduated from Texas A&M University, you want to go there as well. By discussing your goals, your teacher may be willing to write you a letter of recommendation or introduce you to an admissions counselor.
These are all good examples of how networking can help you reach your goals and learn
about your future career.

5. Networking Practice
Using your top career from last class, who are some people that you know who have that job? It could be a friend’s dad or your aunt. If not, is there a teacher you could ask who may know someone? We are here to help. Find a person, write out a list of 10 questions, and make sure the career is a good fit for you.
