3 Genesis: It’s All About Christ
From very first sentence in Scripture, Jesus is present in the Bible. Genesis presents a moving story from creation to the birth of Israel – the nation through which God would bring Messiah into the world. Today we will explore amazing predictions and promises about Jesus found in Genesis – thousands of years before His birth.

4 Jesus In Creation Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Beginning = BERESHITH, from which we get the word Genesis ELOHIM = one God in multiple persons. Plural noun/Singular pronouns

5 ELOHIM: Who Is Present? God the Father – assumed as the great Creator God of the universe God the Spirit – “The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.”

6 Where Is Jesus? The Christ is also present, though not specifically noted in Genesis 1. John 1:1-3, 14: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being…. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

7 Jesus The Creator Hebrews 1:1-2 – “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.”

8 Jesus In Prophecies and Promises
The book of Genesis contains a number of references to the promised Messiah. Beginning in the garden at the fall of mankind. Genesis 3:15 – “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel.”

9 In Promises Made To Abraham
Genesis 12:1-3 – “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

10 Genesis 18:18 “…since Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed?” Genesis 22:18 – “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

11 Is Jesus The Promised Seed?
Galatians 3:16 – “Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, ‘And to your seed,’ that is, Christ.” Christ Jesus is the seed promised by God from the Beginning through whom He would bless the world.

12 The Blessing Covenant Renewed
Genesis 26:4 – (to Isaac) “I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed….” Genesis 28:14 – (to Jacob) – “Your descendants will also be like the dust of the earth…and in your descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”

13 Salvation From The Jews
John 4:22 – (Jesus speaking to a Samaritan woman): “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.”

14 From The Tribe Of Judah Genesis 49:10 – “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. SHILOH = Peacemaker, or “He whose it is” a name for Deity (?)

15 New Testament Fulfilment
Hebrews 7:14 – “For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.” Revelation 5:5 – “…and one of the elders said to me, ‘Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”

16 Jesus In Typology From Genesis
Adam as a type of Christ Romans 5:14 – “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.”

17 Melchizedek As Type Of Christ
Melchizedek was contemporary with Abraham. He was a priest of God long generations before God established the Levitical priesthood. He stands in Scripture as a priest without tribe/beginning

18 Genesis 14:18 “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High.” Hebrews 7:15-17 – “And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become such not on the basis of a law of physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life.” For it is attested of Him, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek’”

19 Jacob’s Ladder A rare and unusual vision Genesis 28:10ff
Jacob sees a dream of a ladder reaching to the heavens and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the ladder. John 1:51 – “And (Jesus) said to (Nathanael), ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.’”

20 Jesus Has Opened The Way
Jesus is the ladder to heaven Hebrews 10:19-20 – “Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh….”
