1 Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme
An introduction to LCVP in Newbridge College.

2 What is the LCVP? This is an optional add-on programme for students taking the traditional Leaving Certificate. An enhanced Leaving Certificate Two Broad Areas of Study called Link Modules are taken: Preparation for the World of Work Enterprise Education

3 Eligibility – students must meet one of the following subject combinations
Construction Studies AND DCG Physics AND Constructions Studies or DCG Agricultural Science AND Construction Studies or CG Art AND DCG Home Economics AND Biology or Agricultural Science Home Economics AND Art Physics AND Chemistry Biology AND Chemistry or Physics Biology AND Agricultural Science Agricultural Science AND Chemistry or Physics Accounting, Business, Economics ANY TWO OF THESE Business or Accounting or Economics AND DCG or Construction Studies Business or Accounting or Economics AND Home Economics Business or Accounting or Economics AND Art Business or Accounting or Economics AND Music Business or Accounting or Economics AND Agricultural Science

4 Eligibility In addition to meeting one of the previous subject combinations, students must also meet the following two criteria: Students must be studying Irish – unless exempt by the Department of Education and Science. Students must be studying a modern European Language. Where a student is not studying French or German the school provides a beginners course in Spanish which involves one class per week.

6 Work Experience All students will be required to complete three days of work experience or work shadowing for the LCVP. It is a mandatory element of the programme. The majority of our students will chose to submit the diary of work experience as one of their optional items.

7 Portfolio Assessment Students must submit a total of 6 items comprising the 4 core items and any two of the optional items Section 1 - Core Items {all of these must be completed} Curriculum Vitae Career Investigation Summary Report Enterprise / Action Plan Section 2 - Optional Items {students must do two of the following} Diary of Work Experience {Compulsory: 3 days of work experience to be completed in 5th year} Recorded Interview {Most students will opt for this} Report on “My Own Place”

8 Terminal Examination Paper 1st Wednesday in May in 6th year
There are three sections to the written paper…. Section A Audio Visual Presentation Section B Case Study (received in advance by students) Section C General Questions (four out of six)

9 Certification Distinction 80% - 100% Merit % - 79% Pass % - 64%

10 LCVP Recognition Students can use the LCVP as one of their 6 subjects when calculating points for college The Universities and Institutes of Technology are awarding the following points: Distinction 66 points Merit points Pass points

11 Active Learning in the LCVP
This is a core principle of Link Modules. Every activity the students engage in may be broken down into five distinct phases: Phase 1:Plan (set goals & prepare) Phase 2:Experience (the activity itself) Phase 3: De-Brief (reflect on the experience) Phase 4: Evaluate (analyse, draw conclusions) Phase 5: Record (complete a diary/report) Programme Statement pg 62

Prepare a portfolio of work Inviting visitors to the classroom Conducting out - of - school visits Working in teams Investigating the local community Organising enterprise activities Actively preparing for work Experiencing the world of work Making presentations Using ICTs

13 The LCVP…. One Big Benefit – LC Points
In the past a number of students have qualified for third level courses because of the increase in points gained from their grade in the LCVP. When calculating their points students take: 6 best LC subjects OR 5 best LC subjects plus their grade from the LCVP WHICHEVER IS HIGHER
