1 Act 2 sc 2 Objectives To comment on the way ONeill portrays the characters negative characteristics, yet has the audience to an extent feeling sympathetic towards them.

2 Look at the opening stage directions: How has each character reacted to Marys return to morphine addiction? ONeill portrays the characters in the play as highly flawed, yet he makes the audience feel a degree of sympathy for each of them. Pairs work on an individual character to produce a positive/ negative table for them. These can then be fed into a shared document.
