Main mountain ranges         - Coast Range         - Columbia Mountains         - Mackenzie Mountains         - Rocky Mountains         - Mount Logan Coastal islands (sunken mountain tips)      - Vancouver Island,      - Queen Charlotte Islands Beautiful mountain scenery:        - Banff       - Lake Louise Contains many minerals           - copper, coal, zinc, lead  Mountains  Luka

5 Rivers Rivers are in between mountain belts - Fraser - Skeena
Cut deep valleys between rivers Provides natural resources :       - Food (salmon, trout, white sturgeon, etc.)      - Fresh water      - Transportation channel (canoes) Creates jobs (fishery, water supply, etc.) Rivers Jasmine

10 Climate Pacific Coast - Mild + wet all year - Summer: warm + less rain
     - Winter: rainy + temperature above                    freezing Interior Valleys      - Mountains prevent moist air               from blowing inland→drier than the coast      - Summer: warm      - Winter: cold, snow covered ground      - Northern part : dry but colder      - Mountains : highest mountains snow-         capped all year Climate

Effect of geography on the First Nation peoples : High mountains make travelling difficult  → isolated early settlers  Rivers = channels for transportation that provide hunting + trading    Communities develop near rivers Effect of natural resources:  Fisheries provide stable food source Salmon used in religious ceremonies + appeared art forms  Minerals for making tools and weapons Many natural resources (trees)           -Used in building + crafting art Effect on the First Nation peoples' society and culture
