2 What is a prologue? What is the purpose of a prologue?
What famous prologues are we aware of from stage and screen?

3 Learning Outcomes By the end of this lesson you will be able to:
 Content: Develop our Epic Theatre Skills by looking at Brecht’s use of Prologue Process: Explore prologue using individual/group work and real literary examples Benefits: Build upon our current skills for Unit 2 and make appropriate creative decisions that we can justify.

4 “I am walking to the chair, I am talking to Faith!”
Let’s narrate… Task 1 Walk around the room picking up certain objects, change direction, stop and converse with others. Narrate what you are doing when you are doing it. “I am walking to the chair, I am talking to Faith!”

5 “I will walk to the chair, I will talk to Faith!”
Develop further Task 2 Repeat this activity BUT you will say what you are going to do before you do it. “I will walk to the chair, I will talk to Faith!” HOW HAS THE TENSE CHANGED?

6 “Mr Howe will walk to the door, Mr Howe will talk to Brandon!
It now gets weird… You will now walk around the room, pick up certain objects, change direction, stop and converse with others just as before. BUT… You must refer to yourself in the 3rd person. “Mr Howe will walk to the door, Mr Howe will talk to Brandon!

7 Lets reflect… How does this make us feel? As an actor?
As an audience member? Why might you do this in a performance?

8 Romeo and Juliet Two households, both alike in dignity,     In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,     From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,     Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.     From forth the fatal loins of these two foes     A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;     Whole misadventured piteous overthrows     Do with their death bury their parents' strife.     The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,     And the continuance of their parents' rage,     Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,     Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;     The which if you with patient ears attend,     What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

9 Success Criteria You could use thought-track to represent the characters inner feelings and emotions. You could use whiteboard or spoken language to represent the Conflict. You could use moments of stillness vs action to emphasise certain moments (marking the moment) You must use facial expression, body language and gesture. You must use the medium of voice. All group members must be fully involved in the performance
