3 Formative Assessments (0%)- scores will not count toward the quarter grade
Formative assessments consist of work done during the learning process. They may include in-class assignments, class discussions, practice assessments, in-class group activities, etc. Students will get feedback in the form of comments, a rubric, a score, class discussion or review.  Failing to complete formative assessments will result in a complete lack of preparedness for summative assessments.  Formative assessments are ALL done in order to prepare for the summative assessments.

4 Summative Assessments (90%)- scores will count toward the quarter grade
Summative assessments are work products completed at the end of a unit or set of lessons. They are performance, not practice. They may include: Quizzes Tests Labs Projects etc.

5 Homework Assessments(10%) – scores will count toward the quarter grade
Biology homework will consist of: Chapter RNV (reading, notes, and vocabulary) Work in the Reading and Study Guide workbook Completing assignments not finished during class Reading of articles To assess that students have completed their homework, we may give: Bell-ringers Pop quizzes Vocabulary quizzes

6 Assessments, Grades and Makeup Work
No assessment will be assigned a weight greater than a factor of 2. (School wide policy) All Honors courses receive an additional 3 points at the end of each quarter.

7 Absences and Extra Help
Students who are absent are expected to turn in work the day they return to school, specifically if the work was assigned prior to the absence. Arrangements should be made to make up quizzes and tests. Students should use their built-in MTSS time to make up work and receive extra help for Honors Biology. Students may use their Personalized Learning Time (PLT) to sit in on another Biology class for extenuating circumstances.

8 Communication We will use our EVRITS system to send out information to parents/guardians and students. We will also be using an Honors Biology Website.
