4. Location: Clermont began as an Agricultural community called “Dip” centered around a post office.

5. In 1913 it was incorporated as the “Town of Clermont”
At that time, the Gainesville Northwestern Railroad Line ran right through Clermont (in front of the old hotel). It was a 35 mile line that ran from Gainesville through Clermont, Cleveland and almost to Helen. It was built because of the logging industry in the area. When the logging declined, the railroad line ended.
In 1913 it was incorporated as the “Town of Clermont”
