Blood is circulated through a semi permeable haemofilter via an extracorporeal circuit. Plasma water is pulled from the patients blood and into the waste/filtration bag by ultrafiltration. 3 Ultrafiltration The movement of fluid across a semi-permeable
membrane with a hydrostatic pressure. A pressure gradient is created in the filter by the blood pump, producing a positive pressure within the individual fibres. The filtrate pump controls and regulates the convective flow of plasma water. Produced in partnership with The Royal London Hospital Copyright ©2015 NIKKISO Co., LTD. All rights reserved. 7 Blood is circulated through a highly permeable
haemofilter via an extracorporeal circuit. Plasma water, water soluble small, middle, and large molecules are removed from the patients blood by ultrafiltration and convection. Also, small solutes diffuse from the patients blood into a dialysate solution. Some fluid is replaced into the patients blood to achieve the desired fluid balance. 8 Diffusion and Convection
The movement of solutes across a semi-permeable membrane through a concentration gradient. The movement of fluid across a semi-permeable membrane creating solute drag. As fluid is pulled across the membrane solutes dissolved in the fluid are taken with it. Small, middle, and large sized water soluble molecules are removed. Blood is circulated through a highly permeable haemofilter or dialyser via an extracorporeal circuit. Water soluble small molecules diffuse out of the patients blood and into the dialysate solution, or out of the dialysate solution and into the patients blood. e.g. electrolytes Produced in partnership with The Royal London Hospital Copyright ©2015 NIKKISO Co., LTD. Blood is circulated through a highly permeable haemofilter via an extracorporeal circuit. Plasma water, small, middle, and large molecules are pulled from the patients blood and into the waste/filtration bag by ultrafiltration and convection (solute drag). Fluid is replaced into the patients blood at an equal or lower rate to achieve desired fluid loss. Produced in partnership with The Royal London Hospital Copyright ©2015 NIKKISO Co., LTD.
